LE KLINT is synonymous with lampshades. Iconic, hand-folded shades take years of learning techniques and mastering many different pleating forms. Only then can a student test into certification to become part of the skilled team of Pleating Technicians. However, this is only a fraction of the procedure of each lamp. Specialist metal workers, woodworkers, and engineers play a big part in the magic of creating unique illuminated art. These tenets have gone hand-in-hand with the folding process since their genesis.
A dedicated LE KLINT team takes great pride in every aspect of the production, fitting, quality control, and shipment procedures to ensure each lamp is unique. In-house production facilities in Odense collaborate with skilled suppliers such as wood carvers, metal casters, and glass blowers, based in Denmark or internationally, with the main focus on quality as “the” guideline.
- Remove loose dust gently with a soft dry brush or cloth
- Avoid saturating the felt with water
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals
- Handle the pleated shade carefully to help maintain its shape
- Disconnect power before cleaning the fixture
Philip Bro Ludvigsen
Philip Bro Ludvigsen graduated from the Danish Design School in 1989. His career spans product design as well as teaching at the Danish Design School and the National Institute of Design in India. He has designed lighting for Le Klint since the 1990s. His work for the company frequently explores contemporary interpretations of the pleated forms associated with Kaare and Esben Klint. The Softly Pleated collection continues this approach through its unexpected use of felt.
LE KLINT
LE KLINT is a lighting company established in 1943, but the story of the company dates back to the beginning of the 20th century when a hand pleated lamp shade was folded to fit a paraffin lamp both designed by architect and master of engineering P.V. Jensen-Klint. We have ever since maintained our original concept but we are constantly seeking to develop within modern times.
