The SIESTA classic high back arm chair combines elegant design, an optimized use of materials, and comfort that feels like a warm hug. It’s the kind of chair that makes you think, “Ah, this is where I want to be!”

The SIESTA CLASSIC chair features plush cushions that make it your preferred easy chair, complemented by a lightweight frame that enhances its airy aesthetic. The high back has a head pillow that moves with your head's pressure, while sleek, padded armrests relieve pressure from your arms and shoulders, promoting an ergonomic position. The combination of these cushions and the subtly flexible frame guarantees exceptional comfort. In essence, SIESTA CLASSIC becomes your ultimate haven for relaxation – the perfect place for a timeless siesta.

Every component of the Siesta chair is designed to be easily replaced. This commitment to replaceable parts not only minimizes waste but also allows you to rejuvenate your chair without having to replace it entirely.

Local production and craftsmanship

LK Hjelle makes sustainability part of its core business by producing furniture locally in Sykkylven, Norway, where the company has designed and built pieces since the 1940s. By keeping design and manufacturing in house at its own factory, LK Hjelle maintains close oversight of materials, processes, and working conditions. Local production also reduces transportation distances and supports responsible environmental and social standards throughout the supply chain.

Longevity and material efficiency

Durability is central to LK Hjelle’s approach to sustainability. The company designs furniture with long service lives in mind, combining timeless Scandinavian design with careful craftsmanship. By creating pieces meant to remain relevant and functional for decades, LK Hjelle helps reduce waste associated with frequent replacement.

Short supply chains and resource awareness

LK Hjelle prioritizes sourcing key components from suppliers located close to its factory. Shorter supply chains help limit emissions related to transport while strengthening relationships with trusted partners. This approach allows for greater transparency and more efficient use of resources.

Repairability and extended lifecycle

In addition to building furniture to last, LK Hjelle supports repair and renewal. Many products are designed so components can be replaced or updated over time, including upholstery and other wear elements. This extends the life of each piece and aligns with a more circular approach to furniture use.

A commitment to responsible manufacturing

LK Hjelle’s sustainability efforts are reinforced by its participation in the Made in Norway program, which recognizes local production and high standards of quality and responsibility. Together, these practices reflect a long term commitment to environmental awareness, craftsmanship, and furniture designed to be used and valued for generations.

Prescott leather reinforces the Siesta Chair’s commitment to quality, comfort, and lasting design. Prescott is a premium semi aniline upholstery leather with a natural, finely grained surface and a soft, comfortable hand. Its semi aniline finish maintains the authentic character of the hide while improving durability and ease of care, making it well suited for daily use in residential, office, or lounge settings where the chair is both visible and actively used. Available Prescott colors such as Black Ink and Hazelnut provide versatile tone options that pair with a broad range of interior palettes, from deep, grounded neutrals to warm, inviting tones.

Upholstered in Prescott, the Siesta Chair takes on added depth of tone and a tactile richness that complements its sculptural wooden frame. The leather matures gracefully over time, developing a subtle patina that adds individuality without detracting from the original design. Prescott’s balance of refinement and durability supports the core values of Scandinavian design, emphasizing honest materials, careful craftsmanship, and longevity while enhancing overall comfort.

The combination of Ingmar Relling’s Siesta Chair and Nevotex Prescott leather represents a considered material choice that respects the integrity of a design classic while adapting it thoughtfully for contemporary interiors.

We aim to create beautiful, timeless Scandinavian pieces. Being a Norwegian family business producing furniture for an international market requires courage. Maybe even minor heroism. Our close cooperation with young Norwegian and international designers has made Hjelle known for innovative furniture design. And on this subject, we constantly write new chapters.
Even though we continue our adventure and strive to tell new stories, we are proud to say that our furniture is still made at our factory in Sykkylven, Norway. This is a chapter we don’t want to rewrite. We are convinced that it is only in this way that we can create and design pieces that will last for generations to come – in form, quality and comfort.

Ingmar Relling

Ingmar Relling (1920-2002) was a passionate designer who created a series of functional furniture designs during his long career. He started his career at Rastad & Relling design studio in 1947 before establishing his studio in Sykkylven in 1950. Today, he is considered one of the most significant contributors to the golden era of Scandinavian Design. Simplicity, minimalism, elegance, and uncompromising quality are fundamental concepts in all of Relling’s designs. In 1965, Ingmar Relling designed his most incredible creation: the Siesta chair. It earned him first prize at the Industry Council for Furniture and Furnishing Industry Chair competition the same year. Even the White House was furnished with Ingmar Relling’s Siesta. Today, the Siesta chair is an internationally recognized classic and a Norwegian icon.
