Humanscale treats sustainability as a core part of its identity, not simply a supporting message. The company approaches design with the idea that fewer parts, longer lasting materials, and simpler engineering can reduce waste while improving performance. This philosophy is reflected across its workplace products, which are developed to deliver long term value through durability, efficiency, and thoughtful material use.
Sustainability at Humanscale also extends into manufacturing and material selection. The company has worked to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and eliminate many chemicals of concern from its products and processes. Its focus on transparency and responsible sourcing helps support healthier interiors while giving designers and customers greater confidence in the environmental standards behind the brand.
In addition, Humanscale has invested in circular thinking through initiatives that support product longevity, refurbishment, and reduced environmental impact over time. By combining human centered design with measurable sustainability efforts, the company has built a reputation for creating workplace solutions that are intended to support both personal wellbeing and broader environmental responsibility.

Monofilament Stripe Mesh
Monofilament Stripe mesh, designed by Elizabeth Whelan, was engineered to balance strength, flexibility, and resiliency to deliver consistent ergonomic support and lasting comfort. The translucent textile allows air to circulate freely while adapting naturally to the body, creating a supportive seating surface that remains comfortable throughout extended use. Its subtle striped pattern adds visual depth while maintaining a clean, lightweight aesthetic that integrates easily into modern interiors.Beyond comfort and design, Monofilament Stripe mesh was developed to exceed the performance standards required for contract seating and meets a range of environmental standards across both the United States and Europe. The textile has a smooth, refined hand that feels soft to the touch and was intentionally created to be gentle on clothing, helping maintain both the chair and the garments of those who use it.
NeatTech Mesh Care
For Monofilament Stripe Mesh
To keep mesh textiles looking their best, stains or dirt should be cleaned as soon as possible. Quick cleaning usually gives the best results and helps preserve the original look of the fabric. When stains are left over time, they can become harder to remove.
While many of the yarns used in NeatTech mesh naturally resist moisture, liquids and other substances can still pass through the surface and settle into the weave. This can make older stains more difficult to clean.
NeatTech mesh fabrics can be cleaned with a variety of common solutions, including mild soap and water, Formula 409®, Carbona® Pet Stain Remover, a 50% alcohol and water solution, or a diluted bleach solution made with 1 part bleach and 9 parts water. When used properly, these cleaning solutions will not damage the mesh or leave spots or residue.
