Sideboard no. 183 is the third of the mid-century sideboards relaunched by Bernh. Pedersen & Son. Relaunched in 2016, model No. 183 is available in oak, walnut, or rosewood in either oil, soap, or lacquer finish. On request, the piece can be custom-made in almost any type of wood. The box joint trays come in two optional heights of either 2 or 4.5 inches. They are easily adaptable to the left or right sections.
The 183 sideboard was designed in 1969 and taps into the essence of Danish Modern with its clean lines, functional design, and expert craftsmanship.
The sideboard features four doors, and the cabinet's interior is beautifully finished with adjustable shelves and a side section with optional pull-out box joint trays for added storage. The integrated door handles are constructed in solid wood, as are the base and legs. The legs are pulled slightly under the sideboard to account for skirting, making it possible to place the piece close to the wall. With a veneered back, it can also find great use as a room divider. The eloquent lines and high-quality cabinetmaking will make this piece of furniture look beautiful in any setting.
Every piece is made in Denmark and individually numbered upon final assembly.

DANISH CRAFTSMANSHIP
Every Bernh. Pedersen & Son piece keeps with sideboard designs from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, including its solid Danish craft traditions. Many of the same machines, tools, and techniques from the mid-century are still used to manufacture furniture created from original drawings and specifications—cabinetmakers with decades of experience at Bernh. Pederson & Son are still with the company today. Ensuring all experience and details in the design are transferred to the relaunched models.Building on strong craft traditions
The techniques, machines, and tools used in the 1960s to make the original furniture are used for many parts of the manufacturing process today. In particular, the preparation of the seamless tambour doors is one of the pieces' most time and precision-intensive parts. The doors are referred to as "seamless" because, visually, each door looks like a single piece of solid wood, which miraculously disappears on each side when the cabinet is opened. The doors are made of finely cut wood lamellae, carefully assembled and fixed onto a canvas backing, allowing the lamellae to fold invisibly behind the side panel. A highly skilled artisan must ensure the tambour doors are cut and put together precisely and meticulously fitted into the sideboard's frame. The slightest of inaccuracies would mean the work would be discarded - this is one of the reasons the technique is so rare today, because of the precision and amount of time needed for the production.
Adding cutting-edge technology
In some areas, new technology and adjustments have been added for the relaunch to improve the sideboards. Modern manufacturing applies to all lower legs and bracing, made exclusively in solid wood. Also, cutting-edge technology is used today by introducing a five-axis milling robot. This CNC machine (Computer Navigation Control) operates with high precision, which creates strong joints to heighten the strength and stability of the pieces.
While advanced machinery and technology are essential contributions to the high quality of the production of Bernh. Pedersen & Son furniture, the center of everything, will always be the experienced cabinetmakers in the workshop. Only a skilled artisan can program and control the machine, so it cuts to perfection with all joints fitting into place. And it takes the artisan's unerring eye for wood to know how grains should match, how to select and arrange the best wood, and how to cut them.
A craftsman's sense of surfaces
When it comes to the final touch, there is no match for the experienced craftsman's sense of shape and the subtle nuances in a surface. All the finishing work is done by hand, with every corner, edge, and surface being finely sanded until everything is smooth and even. Any oil or lacquer finish is done manually, with final sanding by hand to ensure everything is perfectly shaped and smooth. You can feel the extensive finishing work when running your hand over a finished sideboard, and the surface feels soft and silky against the palm. It's the feeling that only exemplary furniture-making and skilled artisans can provide you with – and the essence of the tremendous amount of time and meticulous work put into a Bern. Pedersen & Son piece. Beautiful and timeless pieces to be enjoyed for generations.

Furniture from Bernh. Pedersen & Søn is manufactured to last for generations to come. Attention to a few essential points will help protect your furniture.Every piece of furniture will be unique because its grain pattern, texture, and color have been created and designed by nature. This is precisely what makes wood so fascinating and suitable for furniture manufacture. Thus, differences in color, shade, and structure, weak and robust graining, are a sign of genuineness and are not considered to be defects but rather reflect the fact that each part of the furniture may be from a different cut from the tree trunk or separate trees. Trees have knots; this is not a fault in the wood but the natural boundary of a branch’s connection to its trunk.
Some woods undergo considerable color changes after unpacking. This is due to processes initiated by sunlight. The more UV radiation from the sun the furniture receives, the quicker it will change color. If you wish to delay this process, you should avoid exposing your furniture to direct sunlight after using it. However, all wood will age and develop a patina; this process is inevitable.
Allow all surfaces to stand uncovered for the first few months; in this way, you avoid shadow marks from dishes, vases, etc. - remove them by exposing them to UV light.
GENERAL CARE
Clean, dry, soft cloths or feather dusters will effectively remove dust. Do not use chemicals, detergents, scrub sponges, steel wool, or the like, as this will discolor or damage the surface. Always clean and treat surfaces in the direction of the grain.OIL TREATED SURFACES
We recommend that you always maintain oil-treated wood with oil to prevent the wood from drying out. We recommend that you treat your furniture twice a year, before and after the winter period. As the procedure for applying oil may vary from product to product, we recommend following the maintenance instructions accompanying the chosen oil product. Cloths with oil residues should be burned or soaked with water and packed in aluminum foil before disposal to avoid self-ignition—removal of these products should follow local regulations.LACQUERED SURFACES
Lacquered wood does not require maintenance. For daily cleaning, wipe the furniture with a clean cloth well wrung out in clean, lukewarm water, followed by wiping with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as scouring powders or creams.SOAP TREATED SURFACES
For daily cleaning, wipe the furniture with a clean cloth well wrung out in clean, lukewarm water, followed by wiping with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as scouring powders or creams. We recommend that you soap treat your furniture four times a year or when needed. As the procedure for applying soap may vary from product to product, we recommend following the maintenance instructions accompanying the chosen product.FURTHER ADVICE

Bernh. Pedersen & Søn, a Danish furniture maker, has a long and strong tradition in furniture and cabinetmaking stretching back to the company’s start in 1902. Through three generations, the family firm created and sold classic Danish furniture to many parts of the world. In particular, the period between 1950 – 1970 was characterized by some of the most stunning and well-executed pieces in Bernh. Pedersen & Søn’s history. Especially the classic mid-century sideboards and daybeds designed by Danish furniture designers, including the Danish world-renowned Johannes Andersen, Svend Aage Madsen, and Kurt Østervig, were – and still are – highly valued by customers worldwide. In 2015, fourth-generation family member Thomas Bernhard Pedersen re-established the company and focused exclusively on re-launching some exquisite sideboards designed in the ’50s and ’60s.
