Enduring Style, Sustainable Practices

As a founding member of the Sustainable Furniture Council, a nonprofit organization created to promote sustainable practices in the furniture industry, American Leather® is committed to making our products and manufacturing operations environmentally friendly.

This commitment begins at the very foundation of our custom-made furniture. Each frame is constructed from wood harvested from sustainable forests and is precision-engineered to create as little scrap as possible. The scrap that remains is recycled or reused.

All leathers use water-based pigments, and we offer environmentally friendly leathers. Our innovative manufacturing techniques minimize the number of leather scraps, and like our wood scraps, any remaining leather scraps are either recycled or resold for the production of small leather goods.

All of our furniture styles use soy-based BiOH® Polyols Renew™ foam cushioning that is fully recyclable and available in a wide assortment of firmness and densities. Additionally, since April 2014, American Leather has exclusively used foam, leather, fabric, and Ultrasuede® that are free from fire retardants.

Our factory’s central U.S. location not only ensures fast product delivery compared to brands manufactured outside the country by reducing travel time, but it also yields a smaller carbon footprint than imported goods. Also, we conserve energy with automatic light shut-offs and encourage employees to recycle.
Premium materials ensure long term durability and performance, while offering a wide selection of upholstery options to suit a range of interiors.

  • Kiln dried hardwood frame for strength and stability
  • High resilience foam cushioning throughout
  • Performance fabrics including Sunbrella, Crypton, and InsideOut
  • Top grain leather options in low, medium, and high protection levels
  • Semi aniline, aniline, and full grain leather upholstery selections
  • Steel mechanism components for long term durability

Fabric Care

To care for your fabric including accidental spills and stains, refer to your fabric's cleaning code.

Code: S

Spot clean only with a water-free, dry cleaning solvent. Pretest on a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not saturate. DO NOT USE WATER. Pile fabrics may require brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to restore appearance. Cushion covers should not be removed and dry cleaned. To prevent overall soiling, frequent vacuuming or light brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to remove dust and grime is recommended. When cleaning a spill, blot immediately to remove spilled material. Clean spots or stains from the outside to the middle of the affected area to prevent circling. Use a professional upholstery cleaning service for general cleaning.

Leather Care

Under normal usage conditions, regular dusting and vacuum cleaning in crevices or under cushions is all that is necessary to clean your furniture.

For minor spots and spills: Wipe any excess liquid up immediately with a clean absorbent cloth or sponge. If necessary, use a lightly moistened soft cloth with distilled water and let air dry naturally. Do not dry with hair dryers.

For stubborn stains: Moisten a soft cloth or sponge with distilled water. Apply gently to all soiled portions of the leather surface. Remove water by wiping with a clean, damp cloth. Blot dry with another clean, soft cloth then let air dry naturally. If the stain persists, it is recommended that the leather be cleaned by a professional leather specialist to avoid any potential damage.

For butter, oil or grease: Blot excess butter, oil or grease off the leather with a clean, dry cloth. Do not scrub or rub the area — blot only. The spot should dissipate into the leather after a short period of time. Do not apply water or try to wash a butter, oil or grease spot.

DO NOT USE: Saddle soap, cleaning solvents, furniture polish, oils, varnish, abrasive cleaners, detergent soaps, or ammonia water.

Always try any cleaning method in a hidden area first to test the results. The manufacturer is not responsible for damage incurred while cleaning. Like any upholstery material, all leathers can fade to some degree if exposed to the sun or direct light.

American Leather

Founded by engineers in 1990, American Leather® was created on the belief that three months is too long to ever wait for a piece of customized furniture.
